Clare Evans Are You Easily Distracted?

If so, you might like to read a copy of April's newsletter. I doubt you could get through a day without being distracted in one way or another by something. Either externally - by the phone, email and other people or internally - by your thoughts or a change in focus, particularly if you're working on something that is either difficult or doesn't really hold your interest. We're only human and we're easily bored and it's too easy to let these distractions interrupt the flow. What distra… Continue

Krissy Bullying and Peer Pressure Does Not End In the Playground

Childhood brings up many memories -- school, playing with our friends and enjoying holidays with our family. It can also bring back those uncomfortable remembrances of peer pressure. Were we wearing the right clothes, hanging out with the right crowd or doing the right things to fit in?

Patrick Mathieu Friend Requests and Online Networking

Imagine you are at a cocktail party.

Would you simply walk up to someone you've never met before and begin the conversation with "Hi, let's be friends"? Probably not.

I was recently at a large event where everyone was wearing name tags. At the end of the evening, as everyone was getting ready to leave, I came face to face with a man I'd never met before in my life. He took a quick look at my name tag, avoided eye contact, thrust his business card into my jacket pocket and said:… Continue

Sunny Cervantes My Heartfelt Thanks

Thank you so much to all those who responded to my plea for help. You know who you are. I would not want to embarrass you by naming who you people are.

The gift of education is so priceless. It is one of the treasures we have that can never be stolen from us.

Sunny Cervantes Would You Like To Help?

Last month, I did some spring cleaning and donated some of our old books to a public school near my house. My favorite activity to show clients' sense of social responsibility is always holding a book drive.

I was wondering if any of you might like to give away old books to the children in this public school. The school is called Bucal Elementary School and it's about 5 minutes away from my house. Poor kids have obsolete books. Most are useless junk that corporations give to them. Those… Continue

"What is your time worth?"

If you are a contract employee, or a freelancer, you probably answered with your hourly rate.

Dr. Marlena Corcoran Your Brand New Website--Not

I'm in the throes of relaunching my website, and can't help but think of some advice Dave Barry had about real-life moving: Just light a match, toss it in your front door, and run. You may think it would be a horror to watch your house go up in flames, but the other way just drags out the pain. Where is the equivalent of that moving service that even unpacks your dishes on the other end, carefully placing each dish on its new shelf? I can't even get the commas in the right places. And I hate… Continue

Today is the anniversary of death of Steve Irwin. This was a man who woke up every morning and knew that what he was doing mattered and he enjoyed it. He died do what he enjoyed and I think if he had to do it over again he would, would you? If not, why?

Brad Salcedo Protecting Intellectual Capital In A Complex World

In a global economy, knowledge, that can be protected by intellectual property (patents, trademarks, trade secret and copyright), now comprises a greater share of public companies' market valuation than hard assets. Although this is particularly true for technology companies, many technology executives don't believe their companies are extracting the full value from their firms' intellectual capital according to some recent surveys. Yet to more fully protect these assets lega…

Krissy Galoshes and a Big Blue Rain Hat

It has been raining cats and dogs here today. I have to admit I actually love it, especially when there is thunder and lightning but the weather wasn't the highlight today.

The highlight came in middle of my last meeting when I looked up to see a toddler, wearing a huge blue rain hat and galoshes taking turns with her father to dance in a big puddle.

I smiled and went back to concentrating on my call, just a little closer to what life is all about.

Isn't it wonderful ho…

My old boss is my client now and I swear the old crone has not changed.
