Time Is Money: Tips for using yours better

Time is money. You only have so many hours in a day to accomplish everything that's important to you - taking care of your family, yourself, and running your business. If you want to work less, consider these easy tips for saving time.

  • Invest in a kitchen timer that you can set for certain intervals so you focus on your work. I like to work in 30 minute chunks of time. I set my timer and begin. I don't allow anything to take me off course. At then end of that time, I reward myself with a short break, or I focus on emails or phone calls, again, for a designated period of time.

  • Only answer email at two or three designated times per day.

  • If a phone call is quicker than writing an email, make the call. If you tend to get distracted by long phone calls, get your timer and set it for 15 minutes. At the end of that time, graciously end the call and move on to the next task.

  • Designate certain times during the day to return phone calls. Keep your calls short and focused.

  • Design uninterrupted work time during your day. That means no phone calls, no checking emails - just work.
